Abstract

A short description of a book or other publication. An abstract highlights the content of the book, its purpose, style and features, and includes the description of the author. An advertising abstract should interest the reader, but not imply something that is not integrated into the book. The abstract is similar to the business card, only in relation to the book, that is why it needs to be taken seriously. Usually it contains about 500 characters.

In serial or multi-volume publications, the abstract also encompasses title and release of the previous volumes. It does not embody a bibliographic description, well-known facts, special terminology, or quotations. Sometimes instead of the given abstract synopsis or a combination of synopsis and abstract is placed on the turning side of the front page in technical books and imprints on natural science.
